Sebestyén Palace, Autumn 2026 We turn onto Universității Street — a street the city has reclaimed from cars and given back to its people, though we, as residents, still have vehicle access — and right on the corner stands Sebestyén Palace: its pedimented façade, tall windows, and the ARTA cinema on the ground floor. Built between 1912 and 1913, designed by Budapest architects Aladár Kármán and Gyula Ullmann, it was conceived for those who could afford to live beautifully: grand apartments on the upper floors, shops at street level, and a cinema that opened in 1913 and remains in operation to this day.
